Need Arrow, Broadhead Advice - Elk Hunt

In the past I've always used 125 grain Muzzies and have been happy with the results. However my brother has a brand new pack of 100 grain Muzzies he's given to me so I'm thinking about going down to 100 grain (I'm down to only 2 decent 125's so I have to purchase new broadheads if I don't go with the 100's).

What are your thoughts on the lighter broadhead for elk hunting? If you think 100 grain is fine please setup my arrow given these criteria:

    289' per
    Whisker Biscuit rest
    29" draw

    Type, weight, length of arrow?

    Appreciate your help!

Either should do well. All the elk I have killed (4 bulls, 1 cow) have been with 100 grain heads. As far as an arrow, pick whicever brand you like and have then matched to your criteria of draw weight, arrow length they need to be to clear rest and point weight. then go from there. If you stick with an arrow weight of between 8 and 10 grains per inch, you should be fine.

I'm shootin my Rage 2 Blade, 100 grain with my 5575 Gold Tip arrows. They're 8.2GPI. I've got a short draw at 27.5, but I'm pullin 70 lbs with my Destroyer and those same arrows did quite a number on my buffalo, so I'm not worried about elk.

Thanks fellas, I have a better understanding now.

The key to any broadhead/shaft combo is to make sure I have a moderate to heavy shaft when using a lighter broadhead, 8+. Had I married a light broadhead and shaft I'd be picking up spead but losing crucial penetration.

Makes sense, now off to spend money on arrows. Best bang for the buck suggestions?

I personally like the Gold Tip XT's, around 65 to 70 bucks for a dozen shafts.

This! Best shafts you'll shoot. I've put mine through multiple critters and no had any problems with 'em.
