I do not have a CHL but carry in my truck daily. I do not leave it in the truck. Questin is on my way to and from my truck does it have to be concealed. When I am unloading gear from the truck I may or may not have it in my pocket depending on what I am wearing.

Without looking it up, the Castle Doctrine covers the firearm in YOUR (registered to you) vehicle and to and from said vehicle to your residence. It has to be concealed within your vehicle so I assume it should be concealed on your person during transport. Obviously, I wouldn't be waving it around for everyone to see...
maybe some of the CHL guru's will chime in soon...

For example taking it out of my pocket to put in the truck. Or taking it out of the truck and putting in pocket. If wearing fishing shorts that dont have a waist band strong enough to support the extra weight of the pistol I just carry it in. In my drive way at my house. No not waiving it around for anyone to see.

Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife, or club if the person is not:
(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or
(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle that is owned by the person or under the person's control.
this is from the texas penal code website

Thank you guys. I thought I was with in the law. Some times you just dont have a place to conceal it and my door to my truck is only a few paces. What about on a boat? A boat could be a motor vehicle but what if that boat is a kayak. Or what if I was switching cars and moved the gun from truck to my wifes car? Just picking the brain now. Of course concealed is going to be the best way to do it. For example I kayak fish the coast. Legal or not I have my pistol in the back of my seat every trip. Can not conceal it when puting in or taking it out of the pouch on the back of the seat. A pistol does no good wrapped up in a towel in a pouch on the back if needing it in a hurry. I can easily reach back unzip and grap the pistol if needed. Would hate to have to mess with unwrapping it out of a towel first. Kind of just been going by the mind set of rather be tried by 12 then carried by 6. Guess I could find another place to store it like a dry box but storage space on a kayak is limited and my keys, wallet and pistol are all safly zipped up in the seat of the yak. Even if I was to flip I know those items will still be in the boat and easy to get to.

My understanding is that you have to have it concealed unless you are on your own property, or property you directly control (rent).
Translation: if you own or rent a house, you should be good open carrying. If you are in an apartment, town house or other community park lot, keep it hidden.

My suggestion is get your CHL and all these problems go away.
