    need help with fleas!

dogs got a major flea infestation working. don't know how - I keep them striped with that stuff you put on their backs that is supposed to kill fleas.

so today I flea shampoo'd the dogs - let it set five minutes to be sure it got the fleas all killed. sprayed some stuff where the dogs lie to get those fleas, even the dogs don't have hay or blankets right now they are laying on. mostly dirt holes they have dug out where it's cool.

we have fleas in the house too. ick. saw 4-5 yesterday. bug bombed the house tonight to massacre them (we hope).

go oiut to feed the dogs tonight and come back in to find 10 or more fleas ON ME.

this is nuts. if I'm going to keep being a carrier we'll be bug bombing forever.

need help. what have you done to eradicate the problem outside so it doesn't come inside?

You can also put a little bit of Vinegar in the dogs water bowl. This old trick helps out with fleas and allergies.

Buy some cheap garlic powder and sprinkle it on their food each time you feed them. I would also add a tablespoon of used cooking oil and mix everything up really well.

It won't kill the fleas but it will keep them off of the dogs.

        Good luck.

When fleas get bad they are a mofo, good luck! One thing though, don't close off any areas because they will only hatch out if food is near, and you can't killem in the egg stage. Also they can stay in an egg stage for more than a year.

Fleabusters.com. We order and use the live nematodes every year. Have not had another infestation since doing so.

Go to Home depot and get enough spray(any kind) to cover your house and yard. There is an additive that you can get at a chemical supply company called PRECOR. I get mine at our local pool and chemical supply company. You can mix it with the spray. The spray will kill the existing fleas and young ones, but no spray will keep the eggs from hatching. PRECOR will seal around the eggs and keep them from hatching. This is the reason most people still have problems again once they spray because the eggs will still hatch. Be sure to treat the yard and the house at the same time. Spray your base boards as well as the entire floor inside. It has no odor. The only odor you will smell will be from the spray you buy. Sorry this is long but it has worked for me.

Here's a little trick you can use also. Take a shop light and hang it about 6" above a dishpan 3/4 full of water with a few drops of dish detergent mixed in. Let it hang overnight in an area infested with the fleas. They will jump toward the light and land in the dispan of soapy water and drown.

Had the same problem a few years ago, hung the light up and each night (3 nights) I would dump out about 1" deep of fleas each morning.

One other trick is to build small fires just at sundown and the fleas will jump into the fire. These tricks kill live fleas but the eggs hatch quickly and can infestate fast.

                    Best of luck.

treat the dogs, then spray everything with Demon. You'll have to spray 2 times about 2 or so weeks apart....done deal.

If you can put drops on the dogs and give them capstar then move them away from the fleas. I did this and had the pest control guy spray they back yard. After the yard was dry I put them back. Make sure any hay or shavings for bedding is tossed in the burn pile. My neighbor sprayed the yard really good and caught it at the right time so we haven't had to spray a second time. Fleas are really bad this year and I keep drops on my dogs year round

Get some Tempo Ultra for the the yard. It will do a great job. I believe you can also use it indoors. This stuff works great on termite control as well. We use it in our poultry houses during clean out and prep for the next run. Every six weeks I spray around our house. Anything that crawls or hops up on the porch of front door for a few weeks after that DIES. The dogs and cats seem to handle it very well. There is no odor to it really but you do want to have a good mask when you use it and if you do use it indoors make sure its well ventilated when you go back in. I wouldn't spray carpets and couches but you could spray baseboards like what I have done and it really helps out a lot.

One of my old labs had bad allergies and would sometimes get fleas . The vet told me to put a cap full of vinegar in the water bowl. Over time it really helped out the allergies and I didnt notice to many fleas. "this is by no means is a substitute for a good flea med. it just helps the process. "

The key to eliminating fleas is to treat both the hosts (dogs) and the environment at the same time, about every two weeks until you have the problem under control. Don't use any of the "old wives tale" methods, but stick to only using high quality flea control products that contain methoprene (Precor), as it contains an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) that will kill all life stages of the flea, including eggs. If you keep killing the adults and don't get the larvae or eggs, your work is in vain. Good luck to ya.
