    Now I'm Really Confused

My father in law told me yesterday that he had seen a pretty good buck chasin a doe the other day. I just figured he'd seen a couple of bucks runnin and couldn't see that the doe might have been a small spike or something. Then this afternoon, as I was pullin out of his driveway, I look across his neighbors yard and see not one, but 2 bucks hot on the tail of a doe and they were runnin hard!!!

WE ARE STILL A MONTH AND HALF AWAY FROM THE SEASON AND WE ALREADY MISSED THE RUT!!!

    What gives???

Don't worry, it's WAY too early for them to be rutting yet. They are probably just feeling frisky. Heck, their antlers aren't even done growing yet.

Maybe she mated with both of the bucks last fall and has had enough of taking care of the fawn. Since she doesn't know who the father is, she just left it with both of them. Maybe those bucks were chasing her down to demand a paternity test!!

I always figured, every "No" got me that much closer to the next "Yes"!

Bucks in East Texas go into the rut much earlier than any other part of the state. When I hunted in Groveton many years ago, the rut was over before bow season would start....

                    Its called "prison rut".

Usually sub par bucks kept away from the does in a breeder operation get let go and gotta get some.
