Went out Friday afternoon to make sure evrything on the boat worked since it had been in the shop. Good thing I did. During the work they hooked up my Depthfinder/GPS wrong. On Buchanan striper fishing you have to have good electronics or you limit yourself. I made a call to S.Austin Marine and they sent one of there rigger/mechanics, who lives out here, to the boat ramp to get me fixed up. While I was waiting on him I decided I would troll in the vicinty of North and South Hump usuing landmarks as reference. Ended up picking up 3 keepers around 20". Met the guy at the boat ramp and he had me fixed up in 30 minutes. Went back over to the humps and picked up another 4 keepers and a few unders. All keepers were betwenn 20-22". All caught on either a white/chartruse roadrunner or a blue/white roadrunner with white trailer running downriggers around 20-25ft. Got off the lake around 9:30.
Sat. got up early and caught some shad just in case we found a good school. Started out by the **** and picked up a couple of unders. Trolled over by the lighthouse and the whites were on top. Started catching a few on top when the wife calls for me to come pick up Riley at the ramp. Her and her sister were going school shopping. Go figur. Had to leave the topwater bite and go pick up my number one fishing buddy. Got Riely picked up and we head back over to the lighthouse and the whites were gone. Dropped the downriggers down and start trolling. Picked up the first good fish 24" 6lber over by the North Hump. This was Brians first striper. Not to bad for the first one. Got over by striper Island and started picking up some undersized fish in the 15-17" range. Picked up another 6 lb fish. Riley caught a nice 20" striper but he got away while I was putting him in the fish box. We lost 4 good fish. It took Brian a while to learn that it is not neccesary to set the hook while trolling and so we pulled a few off. Total three keepers and about 20 unders and a few whites thrown in. Busy day.
Probably going to go back wedensday afternoon and maybe again Sat. morning. Probably be myself so if anybody wants to go fishing let me know.
