    45 Burglaries in 30 Days

I live in West Houston 77077 and went to a big neighborhood crime meeting last night. We have had 45 burglaries in 30 days in our zip code, it seem like every day we will receive an email about another break-in. Most recently a community member was sexually assaulted when a POS broke in to steal stuff and found the mother of two little ones home.

We call the police on every out of place person and car in the neighborhood and yet these crime continue. Most of these crimes are happening during the day 7am to 5pm when all the good hard working folks are at work.

I don't wish this time of $h!t on anyone it makes my wife scared to be home alone. We have more guns stashed around our house than I ever thought I would. The guns don't do any good if no one is home to use them when the POS's come knocking. I have put dead bolts on interior doors in hopes of slowing them down. We have two dogs neither good at guarding anything, locks on yard fence, anti-kick-in bars and an alarm.

I guess I am asking for your prayers that our fine men and women of the HPD and Harris County Constables catch as many as possible before too long.

I would go to Best Buy and get a 52 inch flat screen box and lean it against the trash can - park the car around the corner - and let the fun begin.

Man am I getting grumpy in my old age.....

I hate to say it but it sounds like crime is coming up everywhere lately. Not just in the city but we have had some out here in the country as well and have never had these problems like this. I grew up here and its always been safe. Now I'm seriously thinking about putting up a heavy gate at the front.

I own rental property in Country Village (77077) and get the neighborhood HOA emails almost daily about break-ins. It's nuts. I think a lot of it comes from the ratty apartments on Kirkwood and Briar Forest.

Unfortunately everyone in that zip code will be paying more for home owners insurance.

Trust me.........insurance companies use crime statistics when formulating premium rates.

in home survaliance would be my suggestion... not run everytime because of family privacy but when gone have them running, just in case some POS does brake in you have them on candid camera...

x2.. We change our combinations on our locks every month now. Crime is getting bad everywhere. That's why it is important to carry if you can!

That's no way to live every day. Have you seen the cameras that you can monitor from your computer? I've never seen them in action, but I've looked them up from time to time when there would be a string of problems for a while. I don't blame your wife for being afraid. There's a difference between someone taking your stuff and someone assulting you or your family. Big difference. Keep that alarm on and take care. Prayers sent.

the thing is, this is/was considered a really good area.
up until Katrina refugees showed up
when NOLA was evacuating some of the apartment complexes in the area asked FEMA to relocate the displaced people in this area, around wilcrest, kirkwood, brierforest. They still havent left.

keep in mind, 77077 encompasses almost 30,000 households, during the work day, there may be a half million people here.
