Getting stung on tractor

my dad just called from the ranch. He was shredding by our food plot and got stung 4 times on the head and a few on the back but said he never saw what they were and it seemed like they were very aggressive and chasing him. Hes in an area where there arent any trees within 75 yards so i dont think it was bees? He was shredding some briars and tall grass. What do you think they were? could he have run over an underground nest and stirred something up? we have never seen a beehive or any swarms out there

ground hornets. Me and a buddy were doingthe same thing in HS and all the sudden we were surrounded by hornets and they were stinging us bad. We had to jump off the tractor and run because it would not go fast enough.

Could have been digger bees...bad dudes and resemble bumble bees, but worst unless they were guinea wasp and they are aggressive also and make underground nests/hives.

Yellow jackets. He probably drove under a branch/tree with a nest

bumble bees They put me in the hospital. I was shredding in a coastal bermuda field and they got me good on the head.

Yellow jackets.

Yupp they will make a nest in high weeds or grass if no trees around....

Yellow Jackets will build a nest in the ground as well. I got tore up a month ago while mowing a residential yard, got hit 19 times. They stayed on the mower for 15 minutes just buzzing around.

Red Wasps will nest down low as well. They like thick stuff too and hurt like the dickens, Ouch!!!!

i find red wasps way more aggro then yellow jackets.

I ran over ground hornets a couple a years ago on the tractor, stung me in the head several times. I swatted with my hand and that's how I lost my 4th wedding ring! My wife still doesn't believe me...
