    Another DBL Main Beam

After five years of managment, hard work, much money etc., the reward is mine. The lease I hunt is outside of Brady and I have been the lease manager now for 5 years. Until this year I had yet to take a buck (other than a spike I shot out of frustration last year.) I had taken an average of 3 does per year for the first 4 years, but no bucks. I have had several shooters on camera, only to dissappear prior to season. I also missed a P&Y class 10pt last season. This year with the drought and the fact that the cows continuously broke into our feed pens and ate all the protein, I did not have much hope. However I had photos again of some good bucks including a very unique double main beam buck. Once again around mid Sept, after being on camera every day for two months, he dissappeared. Just about right. I went to the stand opening morning with no expectations. I just decided to have fun, which is what hunting should be. No pressure, just a day away from work, in the woods, with no phone ringing or people griping at me. 6:30 am comes and I can barely see. I could tell there was a deer in front of me. I checked with the Binos and can make out a P&Y 10 that we had on camera from another stand. Beautiful deer around 18" wide. A few minutes later another big bodied buck shows up-DBL MAIN BEAM himself. I now had to watch this deer until it got light enough to see. I hoped that just before the feeder went off I would have enough light. No can do. 7am feeder goes off and so does he. I then made up my mind that the first buck either 2mains or big 10, that came back I was going to shoot and be happy. The 10 came back first but stayed out around 35 yards. I waited a couple minutes and 2mains walks back up. He feeds at 18yards broadside. I slipped a Slick Trick up in him and let it eat. As he ran past me I could see that he was favoring his left shoulder-entry side, but I had not seen my arrow in flight, and was unsure about the hit. I waited a few mintues, and started looking out the window for my arrow. It was right in front of my ground blind covered in red blood. Deer covered about 50 yards, and was dead right next to the road to my stand. He has 8 total points, with a double main beam on his right side. Inside spread between the lower beam is 14" and the upper is 17. His left side main beam is 21+", and both the G2 and G3 on the left side are close to 9". I had a goal of a 130 gross. He grosses out 131 and some change. It really did not matter what he scored. I was tickled. 5 long years of waiting was worth it. Due to the fact that I am big and fat the photos don't really do him justice. He is awful purty in my book, and I am proud to have taken him. Hope the photos up load.

Sept 20th 2006 was a great day. I also got to meet the famous Cotton and his tracking dogs as one of my partners that hunts with me also took a buck opening morning. We had problems locating him, and called out Cotton, and his son. Many thanks for the effort Cotton. We found the buck on Sunday-less than perfect shot and no blood. It is great to have good friends on this site that are willing to help out.

We are actually outside Rochelle-east of Brady. Lots of pressure around us, but we have finally got where we need to be I think.
