How effective is it? Can you cold call if they are in the area? Or do you have to see them first?

i used the J-13 call in Ozona where our lease was covered in javis

there are several custom callers on the forum who might be able to make you a javi call

Medic911 Calls (Jeff) and Tony Tebbe come to mind

Four-legged- two or three rocks in a coffee can works great

For the two legged Javelinas around here you gotta get the right sequence of numbers from her first and even then it's iffy

The only time we called them was with a regular varmit call. Blow as hard and loud as you can and they will run you over.

Yep, the switch in the cab of the hunting truck that turns on the sendero feeder works like a champ!

X2 - We did this last year in Mexico and it was amazing how they would come running and just how close they got!

About 15 years ago my buddy and I wanted to try this down in Laredo. I borrowed one of the cassette calls that was built into a plastic tackle box with the speaker horn mounted on the lid. I knew how it worked but my buddy did not.

I put him up in a metal tripod and I hid myself in the brush to do the calling. We were all set so I pushed PLAY on the cassette player. There was a few seconds delay and the then the tape began by saying...Here Piggie, Piggie. Here Piggie Piggie...

I was totally LMAO because the look on his face was priceless! Then about 10 seconds later the real calling started! It sounded like they had recorded a javi tied down and being stabbed with a hot spear!!! It was almost hard to listen to.

                      Never saw a single javi.

Corned the sendero later that morning and he shot 2!

                      J.P.

The sound of corn hitting the ground works real well for me.

When they really work is when you stalk a group and shoot one and they all scatter..start squaking on the call and they will come back....****** as hell so you better have alot of arrows or a tall tree to jump on...

I have a J13 call. I've never called one in cold-calling, but have had great success doing what Jerryg suggests. Here's a video of how it works.

Which J13? There are 3 different models on there.
