      No ****!!

      We use smoke signals.

One of the guys we camp with has this one in his RV tow rig. Its a purchase on my radar down the road. I heard this one, and it was very clear. The best feature is is you can run it off batteries if you need to, or plug it in. I see it in my camping world flyer from time to time, but this online price is better than what I have seen.

I think it's a good idea Bobby. 102" whip on the back of the Jeep with a 150 linear ought to get it. Put up a ground plane antennae at the camp on a 30ft pole and you should be able talk a good ways.

I guess I shouldn't have said "spotty phone service". There is NO phone signal at camp or on the lower 2/3 of the ranch. The upper 1/3 will give you one, sometimes two bars. But the chances of you and the person you're wanting to communicate with at another ranch with bad service both having enough signal to text or pretty slim. WIth my recent health problems, the wife isn't wanting me to be up there alone without being able to communicate with someone. Was just exploring options. I like Devin's method the best. If I could get everyone to speak the language I'd be ok.

I think you would spend way more money on several cb radios, antennas, coax, etc. than it would be worth. You would have to have them tuned up and a linear amp too.

I've had one in my truck & Jeep for a long time. Pretty handy when you are on a trail or road and need to talk to someone in the group.

                  How about UHF radios instead?

Lots more range, it's what we used in the desert racer and would talk well over 20 miles out.

You can get handheld units to toss in your backpack and keep a radio in each truck as well as at base camp to keep in touch.

They're a little spendy up front, but have a ton of reach, and PCI has always been pretty good to deal with.

I use ham radios, VHF/UHF. Ya, you have to have a license for it, but its easy to get. I can talk 75 miles with a regular antenna. 50w radios verse 3w CB. Most ranchers have them to communication around there lease's.
