    Dumb question

I have shot alot of critters with my trad bows. This year i wana try a compound. will a compound at 250+ fps with kenetic energy of 63ish go through white tail shoulder blades? My bow is set at 65 pounds with 125grain slick tricks. Is bone structure still a big issue or do i aim for the squishy parts?

I would never directly aim knowing it was going to hit bone. Goal isn't to crush bone but severe vessels causing them to bleed out.

what these guys said your not shooting a gun and its alot better when you get complete pass thru two openings is way better than one

aim for the squishy stuff that bleeds...i still dont understand the theory of shooting them through the shoulder...i have seen tons of complaints about poor penetration when shooting in the shoulder...last time i checked that was solid BONE!!!

Like said, go for the "kill zone". But with numbers like you've stated, maybe less, I have blown through a shoulder. But not by intent...

It's just the same as with your trad bows. Personally, I think too many people aim too far back. Above the elbow is much better than behind the elbow in my humble opinion.

Before every season we can all use a good refresher on whitetail anatomy.

No such thing as a dumb question here. By the numbers you say I'd say you would crush the shoulderblade.. but with that speed I'm concerned the deer will duck and you'll see nothing but your fletching flying over your trophy's backstraps. I'd say, in anycase, we should follow the canons and go for the vitals.

Great picture TxAg.. here's another classic one:

With compound, you will have them flying 300~400 fps with no problem but of course, aim for vital parts!! Right aim, Good KILL, they bleed fast than you would expect to find a penny in the dark!

I agree with Br'er Henry. If you unintentionally hit the scapula (shuolder blade) you won't have much problem going through it....might not get a great exit though. Hitting a joint (knuckle) is more of a hazard....good thing they're small.

                        250 fps is plenty fast.

My buddy's son draws 40# and he sent his arrow all the way through a deer at fifteen yards with an 80gr slick trick just above and behind the elbow.
