Another vote for the XD subcompact. I have one in 9mm and I haven't carried it yet but I plan to. It is as accurate as I can be.

I've had real good luck with my Taurus 24/7 .40. Not really small but still easily concealable and goes bang with accuracy each time...

another vote for the XD subcompact...you can get it with a 12 round clip as well...i personally cant stand having fingers that hang off the grip so i love the 12 round clip...fits the hand perfect and it is one sweet shooting gun...have had zero problems with mine and it is very reasonably priced

Pm40- I have own a lot of compacts but carry a pm9 everyday. It us substantially smaller than a glock 27 or any other polymer gun.

I really like my Springfield XD sub-compact. It comes with 2 clips. The smaller clip is great for concealed carry and the larger clip is great at the range or on the ranch. They are reasonably priced too.

From a concealed carry point of view, check out the safety features of the XD. There is no traditional safety on the gun, so you can pull it and immediately be ready to fire. However, the gun will not fire unless you squeeze both trigers and the grip safety at the same time (which automatically happens when you grip the gun naturally), so it won't fire if dropped or if the trigger gets caught on something.

Also, the gun has a notch that lets you know if you have one in the chamber or not without having to physically pull the chamber back.

Overall, its a great, safe gun for concealed carry.

                  Just my 2 cents.

I did loads of research before buying my current carry gun. First priority for me was reliability. Second was comfortability and ease of concealment. Third was price. Fourth was no thumb safety and last was ease of cleaning.
After going to over 5 different gun shows and multiple stores handling and groping everything under the sun, I settled on the XDSC in .40 S&W
I chose the .40 because it's cheaper to shoot than the .45 and has a lot more knock down than the 9mm.
Like stated in an earlier post, it comes with two clips which is nice for different purposes. It is extremely accurate and will fire even when remove from a mud puddle, literally.

Some striker fire (or striker like) such as the Glock 27, SWMP40c or baby xD. If you want something thinner and good quality (but you will pay for it), the PM40 Kahr.

No worries about safeties, decockers and other bells and whistles. Pull it, squeeze the trigger, put it away. No fumbling, no muscle memory.

You cannot go wrong with the Springfield XD compact .40!!!! It shoots like a dream and costs less than the big names. I relate it to Savage VS Remington. They both shoot the same and feel the same, but one eats even the lint out of your pocket!!! LOL

                            Glock 23's are sweeet.

For me it would be a tough decision between the G23 and XD40....I'd have to shoot them both and then make my decision.
