Read my post "dude",I didn't say anything about defending yourself with a bow,you're confusing me with one of the other posters.Taking along a pistol is fine but I wouldn't use it on a wounded hog under any circumstance,I dont care if it charged me,knocked me down,whatever,I'll take other actions.When he chose to hunt that hog with a bow he should have accepted everything that goes with that,including the fact that something might go wrong. I seriously doubt anyone has ever been killed by a wild hog attack.Sounds like a rip-roaring tall tale from a dime store paperback to me.

I would do whatever it took for me to come out on top, whether it be pistol or not. You are kidding yourself if you don't think a hog can kill you. They can certainly cause some serious damage at the very least. Did you see the pics on here a while back of the guy that tangled with a hog and it ripped his scalp open from the top of his head through his ear and into his neck?

I really don't understand a person needing to have a gun when huntingsince...
a. it is packed away either in a pack or holster and it will take longer to retrieve it than to get an arrow since you will be bow hunting already and,
b. you already have a potent weapon in your hands, a bow and sharp broadhead and,
c. the chance of having animal charge you is very small as most will run from you when they see you or smell you and if you are hunting you will be in brush or very dense trees/brush and you have a bow in hand and,
d. If one charges you you still have a bow in your hands, will you really have enough time to grab a gun rather than climb a tree as most likely you will be hunting with a bow and have it in your hands.....
Go bow hunting and prove to yourself you can be profincent with this weapon, as we have practiced enough to be out hunting with one...you really are not hunting dangerous game that is likely to kill you like a lion or cape buffalo...it is a pig....many folks have hunted these things all their lives and very few have ever been charged....

Also, what happen to the fair chase? I know what!!!, do it like Trad Barta. When he hunts Bear he will have a 44mag holstered at his side, and his buddy will have a 12Ga. shotgun...just in case?(As shown in his videos). HUNTING THE HARD WAY...RIGHT! Anyway you look at it..the bear has not a chance in h*ll...it will be a dead bear one way or the other.

If i am going to hunt game that has a history for hurting humans i will not be a hipocrete, and do it the Barta way. I will go hunt him with the appropriate weapon......BIG GUN!

Pigs move extremely fast, like a blurr. I doubht that any of us could react fast enough to even point the gun at him...specially at the close range of ten yards, and charging at you to boot.
