RV Service Question

I just had to have my A/C gasket replaced due to leakage while running the A/C and rain water leaking into the inside.

I bought this pop-up new 2 years ago and have camped only 4 times and have stored this thing in the garage the whole time I have had it. This makes me question the robustness of this gasket. Anyone else have issues with this? Is this common to have to replace the gasket this frequently? Any preventive maintenance tips to alleviate this?

when the gasket was placed on the first time it was probably overtightened. i was told to only snug it when it is first placed and then to give it a turn every year. the guy said if you were to tighten it up then all you do is smash the gasket and wear it out.

I'm a Quality Engineer so I have the tendency to drive down to the root cause of the failure and determine appropriate preventative/corrective action. I'm hoping this time around the installation is properly conducted. I'd rather not have to pay for gasket replacement every 2 years.
