    Top Drive Question

    Need some advice, please.

I have a 04 dodge 4dr, 4wdrive. It has about 100k miles, but is in really good shape. I have owned it the entire time and taken good care of it. I have not pulled blue book on it, but I would guess I could sell it for around $7,500. It is paid off.
So my question is this, should I sell it and try to find a used top drive ranch vehicle or would it be better to install a top drive on my dodge?

What would end up being cheaper in the long run? How much does it cost to install a high rack and top drive in a truck? Where can I go to get it done? Well and affordable? I am in Austin and hunt around Pearsall, could drive a couple hours from either of those spots to get it done.

Any thoughts, advice or personal experience in top drives would be very appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jake

Check it on blue book, it might be worth than you think. I am amazed at the price of used trucks. I have a 99 Ford 250SD that books at 5K the last time I checked.

      Pyrobow,

Thanks for the tip, I will pull it up later today. It woulod be nice if it was worth more.

Anyone else build thier own top drive? Better to pay to have converted or buy one that is already done?

      Thanks

If you have faith in the durability of your truck I would look into putting a rack on it. If you buy one with a rack on it generally they are high mileage vehicles and you don't know the history on them. Just my 10 cents!

I would say stick with a vehicle you are comfortable with and know the history and reliability of. If the rack is too heavy I am sure they will beef up the suspension.

I have built a few and if I were u, I would your Dodge into what u want. They are a lot of work, but they are only as good as the truck they are rigged on. Atleast with your truck u know exactly what u have.
