    Stretching goat/sheep fence tips?

I putting up a new fence. 47" tall. 4x4 square goat/sheep fencing. I though the winch on my 4 wheeler would be good enough but it didn't stretch much when the 4 wheeler started sliding. They say don't use your truck but that is my only other options. Anyone ever use your truck/tractor to stretch the fence(it's similar to field fence.)? Thanks.

use the 4 wheeler(sideways) and hook a come-a-long up to it. That should tighten it up plenty. Or use any other non moveable object.

We did what Huntindad says at first. The four weeler winch thing. Worked well. Then we started using a tractor to tighten. Works better, faster and with less work. I'd be careful with a truck though. Sometimes the fence or hookup breaks and could "whip" the truck. Screwing up the paint and whatnot.

We use one of the smaller tractors with a really slow/low gear and not much throttle. You'll know you got it too tight when it pulls your anchor post down on the other end. You'll want to stop before you get to that point- believe me I'm speaking from experience here !
I wouldn't think that a 4 wheeler would get it tight enough, but have never tried it so I don't know. If huntindad and cuz above tried it, I bet it'll work.

your tightness depends on how far you are stretching the wire, need some one in the middle pushing the wire up against the post and when the wire kinda stands up on its own its tight enough. it wont stand up all the way but you will be able to hold it up to the post really easy. i alway use a come along attached with a chain to a tractor. wouldnt recammend pulling it with the power of a truck or trator. winch might work if u had four wheeler tied off to something but might pull the fence into the ground if it is mounted low. you will want to pull it from the middle and pretty level to your ancor point on the fence. hope this helps.

Come along attached to tractor slow and easy, I'm guess you already know this but you want to run a pipe through the wire and attach your chain at the top and bottom to pull from to get an even stretch

Straighten it up with the truck then come-along the final pull from the bumper.

Be very careful pulling with tractor or truck. It will break and anything in the way will be damaged/hurt

The way we do it is tie it on both corners and meet in the middle, attach a stretcher bar on both sides and pull together using two come-alongs then use wire clamps to attach each side and release come-alongs. any other way you have to put your wire outside the corner post to pull which defeats the purpose of the wire being inside the post.

I take a post -wrap the wire around it and wrap the ends of the wire to the fence. Then i hook my chain to the middle of the post and pull it with my truck. and like said before make sure someone in the middle raising fence up.

I went & got a come-along, hooked it to my hitch on my truck. Worked alot better than the 4 wheeler. Thanks.

I use the tow hooks on my truck and attach a comalong or a giant tow strap to a post at the top and bottom and ratchet away...

Easy and wont move the truck.

Ive done the meet in the middle before on a really a stretch that was like 600 ft but we didnt like it that much!
