Judge set Texas Rangers auction date

    THIS IS BREAKING NEWS...

According to Daniel Kaplan of the SportsBusiness Journal, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Michael Lynn has said at bid procedures hearing for the auction of the Texas Rangers that he will uphold an Aug. 4 date for the auction to take place. Creditors for the Rangers, who are mired in Chapter 11 bankruptcy, have argued that the Aug. 4 date does not give bidders outside of the investor group led by Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan enough time to get the requisite funds together.

Also at today's hearing, a lawyer for Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has said that given the right opportunity, he would be interested in purchasing the club. Cuban has made overtures through the media that he may be interested in partnering with other potential bidders, including Greenberg/Ryan. It was also made known at the hearing that Cuban has been approved by MLB for the auction of the club.

To add to the intrigue, it is sounding like Houston businessman Jim Crane may be backing out of the process and may not be at the auction. Crane had been touted for months by the creditors of the Rangers as having a "significantly higher bid" for the club.

Like sands through the hour glass, so the world turns... (Old timers will get it)

If true about Jim Crane, now you know why MLB doesn't care for his act.

    Stay tuned...

Another article I read said the creditors were furious with this as they dont believe anybody will make a bid on August 4th. Crane doesnt like the rules. Beck cant get the funding. Cuban may or may not make a bid. Supposedly there was a 4th person that never was announced.

With Cuban invloved, there's no telling where the rangers can go.

The judge is tired of the drama as well and I believe thats why he said he wasnt pushing it back any further. I believe Wash's testimony and Nolan's opened his eyes to the fact the longer this drags on the worst it gets for the team. I dont believe Nolan or Daniels will stay if Greenburg doesnt get the team. Just a hunch.

BTW - My bet is that Aug. 4 is when the serious legal wrangling begins. I don't think there's any way the creditors say "o.k." and just go home.

It's just my opinion, but I can't imagine that Cuban would be personality compatible with Nolan Ryan. I think he'd probably want to be the top investor with the Rangers Baseball Express and be more controlling or at least more vocal than Nolan could stand, possibly a mini Steinbrenner. I may be wrong, but I could see it happening. I know he's been a great players owner for the Mav's, I'm just not sure he fits into baseball's more traditional owner style.

I wish I had a chunk of his $2.3 billion fortune though.
