    OT - Saipem 7000

This is a lifting barge that is used to make offshore lifts. I am working on a project in the north sea and this barge was used to make our offshore lifts. The main deck was 11,000 metric tons. The living quarter that is hanging from this barge is a 8 story building. I thought this living quarter was massive until I seen this barge holding it. I figured it was neat to share.

I looked up the lift you are talking about and it is massive! The crazy thing is it said that it is the 2nd largest in the world to the Thialf. Amazing to think that

Outboard or inboard? Do you have to mix oil in with the gas?

        That thing is MASSIVE!

I always love seeing things like that. It is amazing the scale that things can be built at.

24,250,842 pounds! That over 24 MILLION pounds! Floating! unbelievable

What keeps the back from tilting up when it lifts something heavy?

They move water into different tanks in the hull to balance the weight. It take a long time to shift the weight because it's all a calculated lift. Very precise.

How many parts is that main hoist? Bet you have to time that lift in inches per hour.

WOW, had to go read about it ...

Each crane was fitted with 15,600 hp (11,630 kW) engines to power the boom and load hoists

The vessel's main power is provided by eight 12 cylinder 8400 hp diesel engines. Total power that can be supplied is 57,000 kilowatts (76,000 hp).

Those cranes on the bow make the one on the deck look like a toy...

I worked on that in Canada in 1999. Pretty impressive, especially when you pull into Halifax harbor with it

No BP does that for you
