    Trailer light help...

Anybody out there a good electrician?

I've got a boat trailer blowing a fuse on every truck I tow it with.

For the life of me I can't figure out the problem.

I'd like to let a professional look at it.

    Suggestions on who appreciated.

i had a wire that was nicked and would make contact with the frame of the trailer and do the same thing. i cut out and replaced that 4-6" segment of wire around the cut and problem solved.

I think Red has it. It doesn't take much to get them to blow a fuse. Check every wire from plug to light as closely as possible and I bet you will find one with a bad spot.

It could be in the light housing sometimes the socket for the bulb gets crooked and the little spring can cause a short. I have also seen the male plug have a short in it and that will cause the same problem. Easy way to fix it is to replace the lights and wiring harness and it's less than $30. Where are you located?

Put new lights and a new wiring harness on the trailer, not that expensive and would probably solve the problem..

Agree, it is much easier just to re wire the whole thing. Most likely just a small nick in a wire that shorts it out. Re wire and sleeve the wires with an old garden hose to protect them, it will save you a ton of headaches.

Yep, what they said. It's just a nick in the wire probably. But can drive you nuts trying to find it.

I agree with everyone above. The cost of the lights and wires is small and can be easily done in a minimal amount of time.

                        Trailer light help...

Have you connected trailer with jumper cables truck chassis to eliminate a ground problem? Then remove bulbs and check sockets for corrosion 1 by 1 and see if fuse blows to figure out which bulb/wire is the problem?

If you redo there is waterproof coating sold for electrical coonectors to paint on them to protect in future.

                          I live in Cooke County.

Again boys...I have done everything suggested. My time and efforts are done trying to figure it out.

I want to let someone who really knows what they are doing to look at it.

If you know someone that fits the description, I would appreciate the recommendation.
