Good luck out there. I'm going to pass this year and let my $10 go to a good cause. I just got access to 160 acres of private land 2 min from my house (Tejas is 3 min from the house) that hasn't been hunted in over 5 years. It does have cattle but has a spring fed tank on it and a lot of Oaks. I'm probably going to be scouting it this weekend and setting up a couple of trail cameras instead.

Plus I have my stand by place in Burnet (23.76 acres and I'm the only hunter on it). Last year I saw the biggest buck I've seen in a long time out there on opening day of archery season and the last day of the extended season. He made it the whole season so unless he got hit by a car, he'll still around. :-)

Cool yeah I would be doing the same if I was in your position! If you come across any other small places like those and need another bow let me know as I am lease-less! I grew up in Burnet and love it out there. Goodluck

I'm in this year. This will be my third year. I've got a couple of friends that signed up this year for the first time. Were going to qualify Saturday probably around noon, might bring the boat and do a little scouting afterwards. Good luck to everybody!

I've killed a few does...all deer are tagged with MLD tags.

I will be more than happy with the 8 or the 9. You get first shot! I would not plan on missing a day though! Oh, go get that blind today! I can most likely go with you at lunch.

                                Thanks,
Depending on where you scored, you will be grouped as either "A" or "B" group when you pick up your permit. Permits usually can be picked up on the 16th of August. Once you get your permit you can scout and put out a stand and feeder in the Bowhunting only area. They will give you a map to show the boundaries and a set of rules. You can pick the permit up at the office on DB Woods road.

"A" group gets to hunt the weekends in the month of October and "B" group the weekdays. In November it flip flops and in December on it is open anytime for both groups. There are a ton of deer out there, but in the walk-in areas there is a bit of pressure, as most want to make it in and easily. I would suggest that you compare their map to google earth and find a few spots you want to check out and then do some scouting. That is how I found my spot.

I sat up on a ridge for 5 evenings in a row with my wife so we could watch a big field and treeline to see where the deer were coming out. I recorded several different deer and their patterns during this time and it helped me to pick my spot. Of course, other hunters are supposed to be at least 100 yards form you, but do not get into a pizzing match with anyone, just let the rangers know if you have problems. Some will wait until you set up and then move in on you after your feeder is up and running. That is why I go way back in there, to avoid all of that.

If you have any questions, just PM me. Oh, BTW, whatever you take in needs to be chained or cabled down as their are thieves out there Also, your name and permit # must be clearly written on your stand and your feeder. Snipe
