I've searched other threads and found some people are using, but I was wondering which is the best for public land hunting. I've looking into iTopomaps & GPS kit which both +/- reviews, which apps are the best for this scenario? I would like to be able to download maps & track my progress and mark spots. Also I would need to be able to work offline if I don't have service in the area.

I have tried my Iphone GPS with GPS lite by motion x. It is a free app. It is ok as long as you have cell coverage.
With no cell coverage I rely on my Garmin GPS Map 60CX with the topo USA maps dowloaded to my Garmin. -
I have motionx gps, cost about $5, I like it better than my handheld. Mine works great even with no service. Lots of cool features.Comment

well, I installed iTopomaps, gonna try that one out for a bit. Never used a GPS before so there will be a learning curve for sure. I'll try to post a review when I figure it all out.
