Center console (over flow) live well question

If build in (plumb) a bait well into the front of my console in my boat and have the over flow above water line, will it gravity flow out and drain below water level at the transom? It will be a 1 3/4" over flow 17" high to
an almost level plane out the transom 10' away.

My overflow is above water line and drains all the way from the front of the console out the back of the boat (below the water line the boat is sittin on).

It should drain out unless you have a blockage, like grass or trash. Just make sure you have a drain at the bottom as well to drain the well when not being used.

Danny if you put the well in the front of your console it beats everything up pretty bad- tried it on my Mako and the hardtails would get smashed up- the best one I ran was behinf the leaning post and on the deck. I didn't have to bend down as much to get bait either.

Glen, your boat ain't a Panga

Good advise - I just was trying to get it somewhere I don't have to do much in modifications if I don't need to. But you are right, my portable well keeps bait pretty good and I have it next to the leaning post now. Maybe I need to put it in front of the console and see how much slosh and pound I get. That and being 4 or 5 foot closer to the transom my pumps would not have to work as hard either.

Speaking of getting Smashed up......... WHEN WE GOING OFFSHORE!!???

Danny that thing looks good but I bet it doesn't keep bait for chit in the summer. With the clear opening I bet that water gets hot quick which kill shad quick. I ahve a 30 gallon Leaning post Bait Well and it keeps bait well. By next spring I am going to add a Fish Flo 2 Bait oxygen infusion system. This will keep the baitss more active and allow you to hold more baits. www.fishflo2.com

You going to put a high-speed pickup and chiller? Cool water holds more oxygen. More oxygen keeps bait alive and moving better.

Good point. You need something that is going to circulate alot of water. Also during the hot summer months its not a bad Idea to carry a couple of frozen bottles and keep them in your cooler and toss them into your baitwell as the heat of the day gets worse.

Brandon, I found the creek bait tanks today and am reading reviews. They seem to be fair in price and can be removed pretty easy. The infusion system is also on the list if I don't go with a pre-build

High-speed pick up yes, chiller no. I am trying to figure out how to build it to have ice holders on each side to keep the tank chilled and soda cold.

I have a home made 8 gallon tank now that keeps 2 dozen croaker alive but I can't keep shrimp and croaker in the same 8 gallon tank. I am needing another 8 gallons.

Actually, I am out growing my 18' boat is what is happening. I need 6 more foot of boat!

                        Danny

The Creek Bait Tanks are hard to beat. Make sure your ice holders on the out side of the tank. the chlorine in bought ice or tap water ice will kill sensitive bait like shad. Again I use the frozen bottles Poor boy chiller system.

It should drain below the water line.
