It's amazing how much archery has changed...

since I got out of it back in 94'-95'. When I got back into it this year, I couldn't believe how much things had changed and passed me by. Just a few examples:

    1. Parallel limb bows - When I stepped back into an archery shop, I couldn't
figure out where all the "normal" looking bows were.

    2. What happened to overdraws. Back in the day, you just didn't see a bow
    without an overdraw.

    3. Uh, where are the aluminum arrows located?

    4. What the #%*! is a fall-away rest? Don't you have any TM Hunter's or
    Martin Speed rests?

    5. What is that spidery looking thing on the Bowtech's limbs, and just who
heck are Mathews and Bowtech anyway?

    6. Since when did the IBO scoring system change for 3-D shoots?

    7. Cat whisker string silencers, anyone???

    8. Did Jennings fall off of the face of the earth???

    9. And when the crap did you start having to take out a second mortgage to
    afford a lease?

    10. And last but not least, how come I can't pull back 80lb. bows anymore?

So what has changed for you over the years? Feel free to add to the list or just comment on it.

                    1. Parallel limb bows are better because they have less recoil due to limbs flexing upward slightly rather than forward that created hand shock in older models. Also longer risers and more brace height on newer bows equal more forgiving to the shooters.
                    2. Over draws are a thing of the past. Here is why. The idea used to be getting an arrow as light as possible (cut it down) to get speed. Now with carbon graphite arrows weighing 5 to 9 grains per inch it is not necessary to shorten arrows to reduce weight. Also many people don’t realize it but when you have the arrow 2 to 3” behind you shelf it is easier to torque causing bad arrow flight.
                    3. Aluminum arrows are here to stay. Not many people still shoot them. I do. I talked to my Easton rep a few months ago and was shocked to here they still make up almost 50% of Easton’s over all sales. I shoot a/c/c’ and Full metal jackets. I still hunt with 2315 for big pigs tipped with a Zwickey (founded in 1938).
                    4. Tm hunter types still around. Golden Premiere was hot ticket in early 1990’s. In 3-d circuit and hunting. . Now fall always are the ticket. They allow the archer to get away with so many different types of fletching without worrying about contact issues.
                    5. Spidery looking things are Bow techs version of the limb savers. Bow tech and Mathews are two of the top three companies today. Bow tech used to be Oregon Bow Company, They filled chapter 13, moved and reopened under Bow tech. Today the build one of the fastest smooth speed bows available. Mathews founded in 1992 makes a very quite smooth shooting bow. Also a top dog on the block.
                    6. IBO scoring I am not sure of? I used to shoot it for fun in the 90’s not for competition.
                    7. Cat whiskers are still around. I have them on all my bows still. Many bow shops don’t install them because they are time consuming. Bats, leeches, and similar silencing aids have all but replaced them in most shops.
                    8. Jennings was bought out by Bear archery years ago. Where you been?
                    9. Deer hunting in general has become big business for years in Texas. Watch it get more ridiculous in years to come. Mark my word on that one.
                    10. Bows have become much more efficient in last 10 years. Many of today’s bows like the Bow techs can produce more energy at 65 pounds than older energy wheel bows could on 90# years ago. Oh also you are getting old lol.

I hear ya Tidwell! I've been bowhunting since the late seventies and switched to shooting stickbows in the mid nineties. When I see some of the bows that hunters bring into our camp, it just blows my mind. How do those little, bitty vanes stabilize an arrow?

Oh boy...this' gonna be a long thread...

My first 90's Golden Eagle was as heavy as a .308...Then I was given an old Phoenix bow bought by an uncle at WalMart in the 80's... none of us really used it ever...it was a LOOOONG ATA size with noisy wheels... oh, and it had an ugly green color with black stripes "camo".

the biggest thing to me is "pop-up" blinds. we dont even need to wear camo anymore. when i first started bowhunting in the early 90's, all we had where a few camo choices, a face mask and a tripod. (in the freezing rain)
