    Target practice..is it just me?

I have two targets at the moment at home to practice with. One has bullseye targets and the other is a 3d deer. I shoot at the bullseye target and I suck big time. I shoot the 3d target and the arrows touch. Has always been this way since I started shooting a bow.
    Anyone else experience this?
On the 3d at 30 yards my pattern would fit on the bottom of a coke can. With the bullseye it is at least twice as large.

Blocks don't taste good, dead deer do. I think you are on the right path.

First response is probably dead on, I like the second one better though.

I've experienced the same thing. Maybe the 3D target forces you to pick a spot and concentrate on it more?

I was thinking kind of the opposite. Maybe the bullseye forces the spot and the 3d makes it naturally happen without thinking.

I do not have an answer for you but I do have the same deal.

For me its the opposite but I know (at least for me) solocam is correct. I pick a spot on the target but on 3D I pick a zone. I am trying to work through that. It could be for you however that you know exactly where you want to hit on the animal but when you actually have to zero in on a particular point your technique lapses.

                Over-thinking would be my guess.

You are better off shooting touching arrows on your 3-D target.....

I can't shoot spots to save my life but a 3-D target is more realistic hunting practice anyway.

trying to hit a small dot, your mental anxiety takes over when you start to drift off the dot. target panic sets in and you start launching bad arrows. on the 3d deer there is no dot so your not panicking when you drift off the dot. your staying focused and launching a better arrow. its happened to me as well. i colored in the dots on one target and made them bigger, 3-4", and i moved closer. that way im still on the dot and im more focused on the shot, not the outcome

                              agree ^

Since there isn't a spot on the 3d target you aren't aware of pin movement and stay more relaxed. That pin movement is noticeable on the bulls eye target and anxiety sets in. One thing you can do to work on it is tape a cheap laser pointer to your bow, stand a few yards from a target, draw back, and then try to keep the laser dot in say... a 6" circle for as long as you can, when it wonders out, let down, rest and repeat. With practice you can make the dot smaller. The point is to teach your mind that the pin moving around is ok, and to relax and control instead of force.
