    Sunglasses and Sunscreen Question

Somehow, during our week long stint at the Frio, I managed to virtually destroy the left lens of my Bolle sunglasses. The lens appears to have something splattered all over the backside, damaging the coating. The clarity of that lens is shot. Feels like I'm looking through a muddy beer bottle. My only guess is that the sunscreen I had on my face did this, perhaps through perspiration.

Can anyone confirm this might have done the damage?

These are headed back to Bolle in hopes they'll make it right. In my opinion, sunglasses and sunscreen go together like biscuits and gravy. One should not cause harm to the other!

    Thanks.

Sounds logical. But I agree you would think that sunscreen and sunglasses would go together.....but then again you might just have some funky sweat that when mixed with sunscreen caused a bad chemical reaction.

I have a pair of Oakley Radars that the rubber on the nose and ear pieces started to melt. It got all over the lenses and could not get it to come off. Could this be the case??

Not sure, but I've never had a pair of sunglasses do this and sunscreen has been employed for a long time!

Nope. Nothing like that on these glasses to cause it. It actually looks like it was sprayed onto the glass as there are splatters across the entire lens.

No joke. As I mentioned, I'll send back to Bolle. I may just head back to Costa Del Mar after this. Had a pair of Fluids for years that I loved. Might need to revisit buying some of those.

Were you using mosquito repellent in addition to sunscreen? Some of the stronger stuff with a high Deet content will dang sure damage plastic. I sprayed down my arms real good before an evening fishing excursion and the bug dope ruined the plastic face of my Timex Ironman watch.

I ruined a pair last weekend with some Deep Woods Off. Did you use any insect repellant? I had them hanging on a cord around my neck when I sprayed the Off all over. The next time I put the sunglasses on I couldn't see through them. It WILL NOT come off...they're toast.
If I didn't think my opinion was right, then it wouldn't be my opinion. So, any other opinion must be wrong, therefore stupid.

I don't recall using insect repellant. Perhaps someone did around my glasses, but I somehow doubt it. We didnt' have mosquitos. I'm willing to bet one of the spray sunscreens may have played a part, though.

Some of those sunscreens have mosquito repellant in them.

^^^ This is likely the answer. I've done the same myself.
