    Kerr WMA questions....

For anyone who has been there.....

My two oldest boys got drawn for a youth hunt there. We are headed out tomorrow night and will hunt sat and sun at Kerr. The TPWD description says there are ground, box, and tower blinds available in most compartments. I was thinking about borrowing a ground blind or two for the hunt but don't want to mess with it if there are adequate blinds (my 2 blinds are already brushed in at the lease). Has anyone been there that can report on what type of blinds they have? I can always make a brush blind but it would be nice if they had something better that the deer were already used to.

Also...did anyone see any axis or other exotics while there? The boys can take 2 deer (one doe, one buck with an unbranched antler) and unlimited exotics, hogs, and varmints. An axis deer would be a nice bonus! Any input from anyone who has hunted at Kerr would be appreciated.

I hunted there last Sept. and the do have box blinds. My group was in the front compartment, just behind headquarters and along the highway. They had some tripods up at the barn, but I'm not sure if they'd let you use one. The animals are used to the box blinds and they are in good locations. Good luck!

Bobby, if you can borrow one without too much trouble get one, and don't forget your rattling horns. Bucks were chasing does around Welfare yesterday.

Chew the blind that I hunted out of there was a wood angle iron framed blind. It was in good shape. Seat was a 2X12 sitting on the angle iron that your could move to get the correct distance from the window (I would recommend a pillow or something to sit on.) Also the seat might be a little low for a kid to shoot comfortably out of. Blinds are in good shape. I shot my buck out of one of their blinds. You shouldn't have any problem shooting a doe or possibly a spike. There are a bunch of hogs there also. There are not a lot of exotics there but some are killed every year.
This is the buck I killed there a couple of years ago.
