Where can a find tool box lift

Anyone know where I can find a tool box lift cylinder or gas strut. Not sure what they are called. I am putting them on a toy box I build to hold the lid open so it will not smash fingers. I am in North Houston. Tractor supply and auto parts stores do not have them. I found them on ebay but I wanted to be able to take them back if they don't work. Will post toy box later

Most auto parts stores sell those for hoods and rear glass doors on SUV's. I've seen some universal models that are relatively cheap and would work well for your application.

Oops! Didnt see that you already checked out the auto parts stores! I know Ive seen them at all the larger chain-store auto parts stores though (Autozone, Pep Boys, etc.)

those might be too stout for a wooden lid unless its made our of 2x12 home depot sells a toy box hinge that works well.

well, if I would have read your entire post I would have seen exactly what you needed them for.

What about a truck stop or a truck accessory store around you? They might have them

very nice. I made a few like that a few years ago out of cedar. My first attempt at a rounded lid or "pirate top". Cutting the slats thin and narrow enough was pretty tedious. Turned out nice. I gave the best one to my niece and gave the other 2 to some of my workers... I'll try to dig up some pics.

I used just normal hinges with 2 stop chains on mine
