After having our 35" box for 15 years, it finally took a dump last year.

We went shopping and all I could do was pick my jaw off the floor. I ain't paying that much for no dang TV. When we got it home... The Samsung 50" Plasma, looks great mounted above the fireplace and the HD is awsome. You can see every zit on Paris Hiltons face.

I sell and install these things for a living. From what you say you're looking for, LCD seems to be the way to go, except for #4. You have a lot to choose from in the 46" range since most manufacturers that make LCD's make a 46". I would suggest you look hard at the Samsung and JVC LCD's as I believe the picture quality is at the top of the board on those 2. Both come in 720 and 1080 models if I'm not mistaken, but there is a price difference. I see more problems with Sony than any other brand and try to shy away from that brand in general. I buy wholesale for my customers and might be able to help you out some on the price, so shoot me a pm if you have any questions or if I can help.

OK folks, I have plunged into the deep waters of HD viewing...or my wife has. (I will too during sporting events) While reading all the green screen comments, listening to the sales people at CC, BB, and an upscale place here in CS, we got all kinds of different opinions about LED versus plasma. I finally just went with my gut instinct and chose LED, because of the glare factor of plasma. The wife and I went to CC Saturday and found them to be having a year model clearance sale. We bought the Sony Bravia 46 inch and as soon as I can get a real person at DirecTV, will order the HD receiver and programming.

Just FYI, if you are looking at buying a similar item, we haggled over the purchase and got $100 off the TV and another $100 off the stand. We got the TV for $1700, which ain't bad for the Sony name, size, and type of HD. We talked to one of the guys in black shirts to get this pricing.

You will like it. I didn't know they make LED TVs? I thought they were LCD? I know of the "upscale" place you mentioned. I supervised the electrical installation. Haven't seen its since completed.
