The timely rains and the new cabin have me extremely excited about the new bow season. Even more so, the "dove food crop" reports at our place south of San Antonio are A+++. Its gonna be a great wingshooting start before the stick and string kicks in.
Now if we can just get past July and August without suffering heat stroke it will be on....

I was until I lost my lease at the last minute. At this point I'm not hunting a new one very hard but keeping my eyes open all the same. After the recent rain I won’t be able to retrieve my stuff for two or three weeks.
I have two invites in Oct and a trip to HOT planned in Nov. So I'll hopefully get some meet for the freezer but it's the camp life and many trips that I miss. I hunted less than two hours away and enjoyed the trail cam pics and trips to lease as much as anything.
Being that I'm limited it's made me focus on even more on practice so not to waste any opportunity.
Sorry for the long rant and thread hijack.

I ended last season discouraged about my lease - I was considering bailing on my group and looking for a new one. I saw very few deer and my only kill was a young doe on the last day. However now that a few months have passed I am getting excited again. Like a Rangers fan during every spring training, I convince myself things will be much better this year! I went to the lease yesterday to do some work and the place was green and lush - looked like Springtime. That got me to thinking how healthy the deer will be and how several big bucks we got pictures of were never shot so they are still out there - and a year bigger. So, YES I am looking forward to the season!

Well I am more excited now than ever. I had been on a lease for a few years that was starting to collapse. My fears in March were confirmed that I would not be on the lease this year. I was expecting not to have anywhere to hunt this season.
My neighbor who is one of the nicest guys you could imagine asked me if I was interested in a lease just a short time ago. After discussions with the lease manager, I have a new home! I am headed up this weekend to get feed pens built and to get my platforms put in place. I will head back at the end of the month to finish the Pop up platforms and check cameras. I am SOOOO looking forward to this season.
So far the others on the lease have been more than generous with info and letting me see the trailcam pics of what to expect! EXCITED cannot even describe what I am.....!
