Texas draw hunts include crossbows this year.

Did anyone notice that they took half of the available archery only permits for some of the properties and placed them in the crossbow only section and also placed the crossbow and archery hunts at the same time.

I did see that, it's been on my thought process with the Crossbow thread.

I totally disagree with this but knew it would happen.

Don't really care that they turned some of these into crossbow hunts, but would of liked to see them not coincide with other hunts.

Have the booklets for draw hunts been mailed out already?

i have shot a crossbow, didnt care for it, wasnt for me. that doesnt mean i am opposed to others using them. what is the big deal with having to "share the woods" with HUNTERS using a different weapon than yours?

I’m glad to see I'm not the only one troubled by this. I started a post on the public hunting section about the same thing and it was deleted in about 5 minutes, so I just started another one but watered it down a little.

My problem with it is they took hunt days from not only the regular archery hunters but gun hunters too. Several of the hunt areas lost permit dates for the gun deer either sex to accommodate the crossbows hunts. I called Austin they say it’s a trail research study they are conducting but do not know for how many years. I have no problem sharing the woods with anyone but they should not have a separate category for cross bows only. They should have special regulations on certain hunts during archery that allow both. It was great when the added the Mule deer category but that is a totally different species your hunting not method of hunting. WHATS NEXT SLING SHOTS!

                          Isn't that same with muzzleloaders?

If you do not like there rules or decisions, then dont apply for hunts. That will show them and next year they will change if no one applys.

It is being done to study and research the crossbow- I dont have a problem with it and the hunts are actually done for population control and research every year. Crossbow hunting is new in Texas so they need some hunts designated to them. It doesnt really bother me too much and Im not a x-bow hunter.
