    Paving Gypsies...??

I know we've had a couple of Gypsies threads before....but

Came home today and the wife said a guy in a nice red Ford dually drove up my private drive and started honking his horn. She broke leather and headed to the front door... as she didn’t recognize the truck.

Big dude covered in gold jewelry started spouting something about having "2 trucks around the corner on asphalt job, and they wanted to make us a smoking deal on a new driveway.

Well he just showed back up, so I thought I would play along. He said he had 1600 ft of “Hot Asphalt” around the corner, and wanted a 1.90 a foot installed. When I appeared to balk, he said..."alright man..1 dollar a foot installed today".

Well lets just say I didn’t take him up on his offer as I didn’t trust him AT ALL..

Has anyone on the green screen ever actually let these guys pour you a driveway? And if so, was it legit/quality work in any way...???

I have heard in the concrete business of this and it is usually when they have left over and they have to find a place to get rid of it but not for asphalt.

A good friend got the same deal. Two weeks after they were gone the grass came growing up through it. Ended up being about 1" thick.

We had a group do our road in front our shop and it was a decent job. It ain't no TxDot quality job but it is way better than the dust bowl we had before.

As far as pricing I don't remember what the cost was, but I vagley remember them pushing they can do a lil more for cheaper type deal. They will try and con you if possible so watch them close. I'd get a firm price before doing anything.

                  Trevelers, Gypsies....con artists...same thing

Dont get me wrong, I would love a paved road/driveway. Course mine is over 800 ft long and a neighbor around the corners is half the size of mine and he just told me it cost him around 7 grand to have his poured...(reputable company)..

Just found it odd they were way out here...

You ever wondered why most of "jypt" is in GYPSIE? A man I used to work for was from Romania and he dealt with the true gypsies where they actully began and he did not trust them himself. I wouldn't either.

My parents fell for this scam in Fort Stockton TX. They sold the house shortly afterwards so I guess the next owner can deal with it.

Pssst - hey man wanna buy some speakers that fell of the back of a truck, they retail for $1500 each but I just want to get rid of them - $300 bucks for the pair.

Greed and the buzz that comes from getting a "good deal" drive people to do stupid stuff all the time.

Never had them do anything for me but never heard anything good about the job they do from anyone who has.

I had one drive up one time but I declined to have my driveway "paved"

Pavement jobs are priced by the sq foot. 3 bucks a sq foot is normal. They will lay it real thin or bill you more then they say. They will say 1 a foot. But the bill will say 3 sq foot. One came by the house a month ago. He didnt stay long.
