    More lizards courting, sparking, or....whatever

We were at Caprock Canyons State Park on Saturday, and I ran across these cool-looking lizards. Appeared to be a male (larger and more brilliantly-colored) and a female. I took the first picture quickly and messed up and focused on the hill behind the lizards. As soon as I took it, the male scampered up about 30' of hillside in 0.5 seconds and was gone. He was about 18" long from nose to tail, and he was bright turquoise blue/green.

The female sat on the roof of her "apartment" and posed for a couple more pics. When I tried to walk closer, she shot down into the hole under the gypsum outcropping and was gone.

What kind of lizards are these? Sure were pretty.

"Early Spanish Explorers are believed to have discovered the area and dubbed the canyon "Palo Duro" which is Spanish for "hard wood" in reference to the abundant mesquite and juniper trees. "
