And to be fair it isn't the consumers fault the pizza place is to **** cheap to give that fee to the driver. I always find it funny how people on these threads call others cheap when they don't tip and yet nothing is ever said about the pizza place bending their employees over. The pizza place has a lot more blame than the consumer in my opinion.
If you don't like being charged a delivery fee then don't get delivery. My brother delivered pizzas while in college and it chaps my *** that people couldnt even toss him a few bucks for bringing them their dinner. Like I said its like not tipping a waiter. If giving some kid a few bucks to bring dinner to your door is going to break you then maybe you shouldnt be ordering a pizza.

So What do y'all tip the chinese food delivery guy ?

Well, like I said I tip the pizza dude a couple of bucks. I just find it funny that nobody ever points out how shady it is the pizza place charges a delivery fee that doesn't go to the delivery person. What does that fee go to besides their pockets? Would you be ok paying a waiter fee at the restaurant and then being told that waiter fee doesn't go to the waiters and you still need to tip the same as before the waiter fee?

If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Its that simple. Don't take it out on the poor kid putting miles on his car...for the record I don't get pizza delivery where I live. There use to be a kid at dominoes that would bring pizza to my house and I would make sure to give him a good tip since he wasnt supposed to deliver all the way out here but he moved away for college.

Some of the places started that because they pay a small mileage stipend to the drivers... what they pay the driver isn't near what it cost in gas or wear & tear but it helps when the cheapo's don't tip...

Their reasoning was that if they deliver, then they have to have drivers.. they pay the drivers minimum wage while they are working in the pizza joint.. I made pizzas, swept floors, cleaned restrooms and bussed tables when I wasn't driving...

So the pizza dude does get some of the delivery fee money? That makes me feel a little better about having to pay it. For the record, I have never said you shouldn't tip the pizza dude. All I have said is that it is a BS practice for there to be a delivery fee and for that delivery fee to not go to the person actually delivering the pizza. It is just another way for the pizza company to get money from you. For a standard pizza order (for just my family, not a party), I'm willing to pay an extra $5 on top of what I would pay if I picked it up. If there is no delivery fee, the pizza dude gets all $5. If there is a $2 delivery fee, the pizza dude gets $3 (still 15% on a $20 order). Out of that $2 delivery fee it sounds like the pizza dude may get $1. To me the other $1 is between the pizza dude and the pizza place and is none of my business. And if the pizza dude doesn't like it well, nobody is forcing them to deliver pizza. McDonalds pays minimum wager (or better), so they could work there and not have to worry about mileage, gas, etc. Or as Dale once said (I think it was Dale), I'm sure there is a ditch that needs to be dug that they could make money digging.

The problem with digging ditches is they rarely want them dug between 5pm and midnight... most of those drivers are like me.. I did it to pay bills my regular income wouldn't cover when times got hard and work slowed down... course I guess I could have gone on the gov't dole... but that ain't the way I was raised...

I usually tip $3 for pizza delivery. The size of my order has little to do with it, so I don't believe in percentage tipping in this case. The things I do try to take into consideration are distance, weather, etc. Now, if I were placing a party-sized order, then I would take that into consideration too.
