IPhone update help!

I'm not too savvy, but I know there are several guru's on board.

I can't get my Iphone to update. Everytime I try it tells me I am not connected to the internet. I know I am, it will connect to ITunes, heck I'm typing this right now! I've been fighting with it all morning. Is there something in my virus protection blocking the connection? I've updated from this computer before. It syncs just fine. Any ideas?

Not sure, but maybe plug it in while you are holding down the home button on the phone.

OK, I booted the phone, funny how far it flew. However, I think a broke a toe when I booted the computer

Rebooted both, still the same issue. I haven't updated in a while, don't even remember the last time. My phone is starting to act a little weird so I figured it needed to be updated. I am running 3.1.2 right now, and I think 3.1.3 is available. It seemed like everytime I had a problem with my original IPhone I was told to update and it seemed to fix it. It wouldn't break my heart to not update, I just thought it was needed every now and then for smooth operation?

Have you updated your itunes lately?

It is needed for smooth operation. Try to go the actual Itunes store. If it let's you connect and act like you are going to purchase a song it should work. If you can't connect to the store, Itunes may be down right now. You may have to log in to the itunes store also. Let us know if that works.

Mine had the same issue and in fact got all cluster bombed and had to take to Apple Store for re-install, lost everything on the phone. They told me while there that most times you have to shut down your virus protection when updating thru Itunes as the virus protection can corrupt some of the files and you get what I got. Either it will not update, or it will try and you get to go to the nearest Apple Store for a redo. Hope this helps.
