Thinking of getting feeder from academy

I am thinking about getting the MOULTRIE FEEDERS PRO HUNTER 55-GAL. FEEDER from academy. I am not one to normally buy something like this from this store but I have 200$ in giftcards there and I need a new feeder. I understand that items from academy are generally cheaper and cheaper for a reason as they usually lack quality. Any suggestions? Does anybody have this feeder that can give some feedback?

just keep ur reciept, academy backs all its products and is great about returning broken or defective items no matter the amount of time since u bought it

It will not hold up, the legs are too rickety, the timer is cheap. We bought one, it didn't even last the first year.

We were very disapointed with the buttons on the timer. We have four of them, and the buttons on the timers are sticky or inop, making it very difficult or impossible to make time adjustments. We have had them a two years and are not stuck with leaving the time and spin durations alone or pressing them with a very hard object. We have one remington that was the same price range but we have only run it part time. We may switch?
We replaced the legs on most of them with material we had, and staked the others down so pigs wouldn't brake them.
We did not think about keeping the reciept and returning or exchanging timers but that's a good idea.

I haven't used this feeder but I will probably never use another Moultrie product. Great warranty but I'm going broke paying shipping back to them and plum tired of every time I go to the lease having to cuss their products.
I'd rather buy some chinese crap that is full of lead and mercury...

+2 If you live in Austin ..Go to the Academy down in South Austin..I have found most of their hunting items are cheaper..than other academys in the austin area..

I have two of them. One I have had for 3 years with no problem (but I swapped out the legs before I put it up with 1-1/4 inch Electrical EMT). The other I have had for two years with the only problem being the skinny legs. I tilted it one day while it was full and it fell over on me. I was lucky that a friend was with me to help hold it up while I got out from under it. Replace the legs and your go to go. I cant find them in stock in Houston or I would have four of them now. Academy in Humble said that they would have them late July. Cant wait.

Key problem in this suggestion is that I'm attending Texas A&M and we all know how affordable college is...

As for the weak legs, I noticed them when i checked it out and was planning on wither replacing them before it gets put up or staking it down with T-posts

                      Thanks for all the advice!

I have 5 of the Remington feeders and have had no problems for 3 years. My only issue was the cows knocked it over and bent one of the legs. Went to Metals 4 u and bought cheap pipe with a 1/4" wall ($21 for 3 - 7' pcs)and put back up. No problems since. Steer clear of the feeders where the legs attach to a band that goes around the drum. I had a buddy fill one up with 200lbs of corn , leaned against it to close lid and band broke and turned over dumping him and the corn.

Buy a new complete lower unit and mount it on an old feeder...

Or if you use the legs that the feeder comes with....wire T-Posts directly to the legs to give them support...pic attached - but ignore the longhorn.

If you use t-posts for leg supports please place an old can or something over the top of the t-post. I don't want to read a prayer request on here about someone slipping while filling a feeder!
