I believe that is another Texas Rat Snake. This is quite a year for them! I can't remember ever seeing so many.

Thanks everyone. He was nearly 6' long. What I've been calling a corn snake is really a Texas rat snake. I always thought rat snakes were black/grayish. I had not seen this kind of coloring before.

The only snake I might call Corn Snake is Elaphe guttata guttata, which is the orange/red colored one found in the southeastern states, not here. I try to use correct common names. For instance, Great Plains Rat Snake (Elaphe guttata emoyi) or Texas Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri). I don't ever use the term "chicken snake," as it is entirely non-descriptive and just creates confusion. I don't care if someone else says "corn snake" or "chicken snake," it's just that those don't tell me which snake you mean. By the way, the size you stated is further evidence that this is a Texas Rat Snake rather than the similarly patterned Prairie Kingsnake, which would never get that large.
