GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access or TDMA, you can get into debates about which is better, but the order usually goes: TDMA, CDMA, GSM, pure IP...

    I like pure HSDPA

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is an enhanced 3G that hauls butt. Downloads are theoretical maximum of 14.4 Megabits per second. The SOAK lab results I saw live were awesome. Of course most vendors are just jumping straight to 4G since it gives them more capacity and speed.

My patience wouldn't allow me to finish the order. Will try again later.

I don't think the white ones were ever available.

            No advantage - so no.

Was at Apple on Saturday complaing about the daily drop call problem.

The store manager said that the new Iphone will not solve the drop call problem.

Apple says it is AT&T and AT&T says that it is Apple. I tend to believe that it is an Apple I-phone problem as folks on AT&T who are not runnig Iphones dont have this kind of problem.

You can believe that if you want but I know for a fact that's just not the case. The Blackberry I had before my iPhone dropped calls, my son's BB drops them now just as bad as mine did. Back when I had a Razor, same problems. Dropped calls is not just an iPhone issue.

Fulldraw - I never had this problem with my other phones. Never had this problem with other carriers. My spouse does not have this problem with her AT&T phone, my son doesnt have this problem and my BIL doesnt have this problem. So yes, I will believe that it is an Iphone issue.

More importantly, AT&T will tell you that by far, they get almost 4 to 1 more complaints about the Iphone dropping calls vs. their other phones - that is what their second tier AT&T customer service told me and I tend to believe that they know what they are talking about.

Like I said, believe what you want. I can list just as many folks with non-iPhones that have the same problems. I guess all those folks who unlocked their iPhones and have service with another carrier and experience far fewer dropped calls are just pulling our leg. I did read it on the Internet, though. You can never believe anything written on the Internet.

I didn't realize you could also preorder from AT&T until I read this.
It confirms there is no option for the white phone today.

Actually, I've experienced exactly this...prior to my iPhone I had my Blackjack which got great service and didn't drop calls...I got my iPhone 3G almost 2 years ago and over the last 6 months my calls started dropping all the time...now...I could blame it on the iPhone but I think what is really happening is that so many people have recently jumped onto AT&T's network due to the iPhone demand that their network infrastructure isn't designed to handle that kind of volume...hence more dropped calls...it may appear that it's the phone's fault but I do believe that this is an AT&T problem...which is why I dropped them a week ago and bought myself an EVO

Only time I have dropped calls is when I'm just in a bad area. At best I will get 2 bars of signal in my house, depending on where I'm standing...I tend to have a lot of dropped calls at home. On the road I'll have dropped calls only if I drive into a dead spot. (where other phones dont work either)

Other than that I've never really had a dropped call issue.

First and foremost I want to say there are alot of misinformed people on this thread. Upfront I work for Sprint and its not for everybody. If you want signal in the middle of nowhere and I do mean no where stick to ATT.

Sprint is the only wireless carrier that has 4G. Sprint owns 57% of Clear so Clear 4G and Sprint 4G is one in the same. The only company even close to having 4G is Verizon and they are not expected to roll it out till sometime 2011, ATT is supposed to roll out 2012. This is the information I have.

The Sprint EVO smokes the 4th Generation iphone in almost every category.

The 4th generation Iphone is not 4G capable and there is not a upgrade that could change it as it will require a diffrent antenna to recieve the signal (somebody already mentioned this) it will alos have a $325 etf charge associated with it.

People get dropped calls on ATT because of the network not the phones. The reason more and more have been having droped calls is because more and more people are getting smart phone. This one of the reasons ATT doesnt let you teather and they changed there plans in a effort to get there users to not use so much data.

Imagine a 6" pipe and water is going through it. Now change the water to phone calls, only so many phone calls, data usage, text can go through at one time. The more that are trying to get through the more that spill over and can not. This is really seen in more metropolitian areas but since the users continue to grow the more and more its happening every where. Back to the pipe, this pipe is called spectrum and thts all ATT has that pipe is never going to get any bigger.

Sprint on the other hand probably has a 8" pipe the diffrence is we have the ability to make our 8" pipe a 48" if need to be because Sprint owns more spectrum than anyone.

With that being said ATT works some places, Verizon works some places, and Sprint works some places........pick your posion
