    Need some options/ideas...

I am building a hog trap around my feeder at the huntin spot. My delima is I don't have any way to haul hogs to someplace else to sell them even if I knew of a place to take them to. I am thinking to trap as many as I can and then shoot them in the trap and drag them out to the pasture to feed the critters. I don't relish this idea but DO need to get rid of hogs as they are hurting the deer hunting. Does anyone have any suggestions other than taking them to processor to donate meat to hungry folks which might get kind of expensive? I do plan to utilize as much of the meat as I can but there are more hogs than I can use the meat of. BTW I would have a TBH hunt except that you can never know when hogs will show up. I have killed only 2 in 15 years but have lots of them on trail cameras at all hours of the night and some in the day.

I dunno, talk to a local church or food bank and see if they could put you into contact with some needy families? I don't think the food bank would be able to handle it without going through a licensed butcher but if you deal directly with the families and give them the hogs I don't think it would be a problem. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I am not sure hunters for the hungry-type programs take hogs b/c of brucellocis & tricinosis concerns, that rule may have changed though.

If you really want to live move, you can build or buy a truck-bed pen pretty easily that will hold hogs. You can pack them in there pretty tight.

Might want to knock on a couple doors in a local poor neighborhood - suspect it wouldn't take long to find a couple families that will take them.

In my more energetic days we used to trap em and drap em out of the trap one by one, by hand. Then duck tape their legs together and toss em in the back of the truck. Heck of a rodeo. I'd but a .22 between their eyes and split the hide down the spine and pull off the straps. Call it done. That will take bout 5 minutes per pig. Good eatin. Coyotes wil be glad to have the rest

I once knew a guy that lived there in Terrel that would trap hogs, transport them to town and sell them for a fair amount of $$$. I can try and track him down in you want me to.

This is not in Terrell but in Fairfield. I did talk to some of the locals out there about doing the trapping for the meat or whatever and they all just said there are so many hogs out there they were not interested in setting up and trying to catch ours. They seemed to think the hogs are too smart to be easily trapped anymore?? I will ask around when I get there this weekend and see if anyone wants 1 or 10 if I catch any. Thanks for the post!

You probably won't have a big problem. After a few of 'em get caught in the trap they'll start avoiding it unless you move it. Maybe even then.

I'd cut the straps and drag the rest.
              good luck

We had some Air Force guys come from Dyess and trapped a few hundred of the things. They fed a bunch of folks, ate a bunch and sold a bunch. Worked well for both parties.

talk to some of your friends...i am sure you can find someone to take them....if you have kids in school talk to the teachers...i am sure if they have any male teachers they will take them. I guarentee the local coaches would take it if you showed up at the school or field house with them.

You don't have to butcher them. I take them from people who have both quartered them and some who have only gutted and skinned them. I really like smoking a roast or making pulled pork with the roast.

I guarentee if you have the meat it won't be to hard to find someone who wants it. If you don't someone you know know's someone who wants it.

Once you get them trapped put an ad on craigslist for a free hog meat or sell it. But I would shoot it myself. I would be a little worried about someone off of CL shooting a hog on my property. Or meet them at the gate with it. You shouldn't have any problem getting rid of the meat.
