    222 For Hogs?

I've got a friend who is bringing his son out to hunt pigs with us this weekend, but all he has in the way of rifles is a 222. He's a small statured kid, who doesn't like shooting bigger guns. But he is deadly with that old 222. Ranges will be short, under 50 yards, so assuming that he puts it in the right spot on hogs under 100 pounds, is a 222 enough?

I shot my first deer with a triple deuce at 7 years old and it did the job. If he is small and that is all he can shoot but he shoots it accurately then he should be fine...bullet placement is way more important than caliber any day of the week.

Does he need to stay away from the leg bone / elbow? Should he wait for a quartering away or a head shot?

          Put it in the ear.

I think as long as he is in the vitals he will be good. If he's comfortable and as good as he says, then behind the ear prolly is a sure heart stopper

Between the ear and eye and make cranial jelly and he'll be fine. I'd avoid body shots.

I've killed over 100 hogs with my .22-250 which is a step up from the .222, but it is ALL ABOUT SHOT PLACEMENT!! Shoot 'em in the earhole or just in front of it and it is BANG-flop, kick a bit, and dead hog.

Sometimes they end up like this one:

I've shot a ton of pigs with .223 and I don't think they are that much different, .222 is more accurate. Shot 'em in the ear and he'll be golden.

Here is a big boar my oldest took with his .223 with a 55 grain bullet. Droped him in his tracks. Shot was from 100 yards. Prity much the same as .222
