Ft. Worth Cats ?

We are up here at work talking about the Cats. Someone said that they are not a farm team for any MLB club. Is this correct? They said that it is a private team. I did not know there were teams like that. Anyway just wanted to see what the "experts" knew.

They don't have affiliation with the MLB. They play in an independent league.
