    Hunting North of Olney

I'm looking for some feedback on the deer hunting north of Olney. We are looking at a lease near the lake about 10 min north of town. It is just over the county line in Archer County. I've been hunting west of there near Elbert. We have good deer numbers, but are looking for better quality.

Creek bottoms and wheat fields are key, IMO. Quality is determined on letting them reach their potential.

I'm from Olney and the area you speak of is not what I would consider good deer country. What makes the place even remotely huntable, is the large tracks of land.

I would suggest doing a night survey with a spotlight or sitting up on a feeder that is already feeding corn. If there are any deer in the area, they should still be comming to a feeder even now.
The Mesquite flats and dry washes north of Olney contain some good deer, but you really have to have a large tract of land and the deer migrate to the wheat fields during the winter.

I used to hunt in the area youi speak of. We killed a monster 8 point and several smaller bucks {and some nice does} in the 2 years we hunted there.
