smoke stack length for a bbq pit

according to the calculator i've got off of Smokering, for the size pit we're looking at building, a 5 inch dia pipe is going to need to be 32 1/4 in long

does the include what is outside AND INSIDE the pit, or is that strictly an above the pit measurement.

learned with the last one we got that we def need some pipe inside the pit (someone else built).

ALSO...this is going to be a reverse flow smoker, so are the smoke stack requirements the same as a traditional offset?

They are the same and the measurement is from above the pit.
