    Hasseled at Home Depot AGAIN

Must be a big target on me or something but I'm getting sick of feeling like I'm driving into ghettoville just to go pick up some lumber. (HD at Spring Cypress and 290). Last weekend it was pandhandlers. Time before that I saw a guy try to open my truck door and then claim he thought it was his truck. Took off runnning. Several times before that there were more panhandlers.
Today I made a lunch run for some plywood and this kid, I'd say college age, in a Tahoe or Yukon pulls up with an attractive female in the passenger seat. She was slouching down like she was really ashamed of him. He told me his company had sent him out here on delivery and he had an "extra" $2000 home theater system he wanted to get rid of. I think he'd have "sold" it for a case of beer. Claimed he had receipts and stuff but I told him to beat it. Saw him showing it to some contractors as I was pulling out. I'd say zero probability that that was legit. Probably should have called it in
Guess I'll start carrying protection when I go over there.

I think that's known as the "white van scam".
Some of them even have a "magazine" that shows the system, it's retail price, and how good it is.

Had a guy try to sell me one of those entertainment systems at the Academy in Burleson. I wasn't too nice to him when he didn't understand to get lost.

Funny, he was showing a magazine to those contractors as I drove off.

I just called the non-emergency line and sat on hold a bit then gave up. That guy is probably long gone by now but if I see him again I'll get a plate and call it in.

I got hit by the same scam, when we first moved to Houston.
Two guys, white van, half a dozen "DaVinci" surround sound systems in the back.
They gave me the pitch, showed me the magazine, the whole bit.

I was actually in the market for a surround sound system, but something just didn't seem right. Their sales tactics were definately high pressure, almost to the point that they wouldn't let you walk away. They would not accept NO. I finally just turned around and walked into the store. Hindsight, I should have got back in my truck and left ... no telling when a scumbag like that would break into your truck right after they watch you walk into the store.

Never been hit up like that just for gas money to get whereever! I go to same little stopngo down from my house(Stripes) and one will come up and want a dollar for gas.I evaluate the person most times before blowing them off.One time I had my dog in truck when it happened,I politly told the chickenhead that should used his cash for gas instead of $5 rock! Wasn't worried about my truck...140 plus lbs. mastiff sitting in front seat! And Bubba had a attitude that day!

                        Pepperfool/Texastaxi/others

I had the exact same experience in San Marcos once.

I was trying to buy gas on my way south.

So what's the deal? Is that stuff hot? Fake? Anyone know? I always wondered what the deal really was.

At first I was thinking it must be stolen but now I think it is probably just junk since so many people have heard the same line.
The Omaha Steak driver pulls a similar line sometimes. He'll pull up to our Hank Hill sessions in the driveway and tell us he has xx amount of steaks someone ordered and did not take or that he has 2 cases left to meet his quota for the day and he'll let them go cheap. But the difference there is that you know its a line but you also heard of the product and those steaks are not bad.

                            LOL

Once upon a time I bought those "steaks". Too funny... yeah, Mr. Gullible actually fell for that one. Stuff was terrible. I kept some of it in my freezer for years to punish myself.

Fake, Hot, Maybe all the above. It would kinda be hard to explain when you get pulled over and the serial numbers come back stolen.
