    Any insurance guys around?

I have a few questions for you insurance guys.

I just recently started my new job as an agent and just got my temporary license.

What is the test like? Whats the best method you found for studying for the licensing test?

Are there any major pitfalls or obstacles I should watch out for?

Is working 12-15 hours a day typical?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

I went to Dallas for 2 weeks and took courses over how to pass the liscensing exam. 1st week was P&C - sat in class for 4 days and then took the test the 5th day - Passed
2nd week was Life & Health - sat in class for 4 days and then took the test the 5th day - Passed

If you are willing to put in that many hours per day then you should get off to a GOOD start in the insurance business!

Well depends on what test you are taking, life/health, P&C, so which is it? There are some online courses for about $100 that are worth taking that will help you pass the test.

Don't let people discourage you, family, friends, or clients, always keep a positive attitude that the next person will be a sale. I started out selling supplemental insurance door to door working off referals, I had 12 hour days reguarly but I don't anymore

What company are you going to be working for?

Take a study course, either online or in person. You might be working alot in the first year or two but the best advice I can give you is set 10 appts a day (you might have to talk to 100 people to get those), 8 will show, 4 will be interested and you might sell 1 or 2. Read as many motivational books on sales as you can and read them in between appts, if you start feeling beat down keep going, don't give up and always keep a positive attitude, you won't sell anything if you're pissy, I promise. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

x3 using an online prep coarse. Like everyone else says stay positive. I use to listen to Zig Ziggler in the truck in between cold calls (itunes or books on cd). If you put in the hours and bust your tail, you WILL reap the rewards!!

Dahmer- like they said above, I would take a study course either online or in person. It will be worth it to pass on the first try so you can get to work!

Good luck with your new job!

Get your license, but change companies......

AIL is a MLM company -- "rah, rah, sis boom bah -- go recruit some more agents..."

If you decide to stay, you better be a heck of a salesman.....and be ready to pay for your own "training"

As stated above - find a training course and take it. The L&H is not an easy one.

Anyone can get in the insurance business. Staying in it takes a little more effort. The key to staying in the business a long time is developing a good reputation. Being someone clients can count on representing a company they can count on. Not sure you've found that ingredient with AIL?

                    Good luck.

That would be my other suggestion but if you can make it with them you can make it with anyone.

I started selling insurance with Combined Insurance Company of America and let me tell you, selling those policies on straight commission made selling for any other company seem easy.

I also went to the training courses in Arlington. Better for me to do that because they have you trapped there for three days with no other distractions and you had to learn it. I also agree with the company comments, be careful who you represent! Life insurance is a very big deal in my opinion and having to look a greeving family in the eye when their policy doesn't pay or perform like it should will suck! I was a Farm Bureau agent for 3years and believe in that company thru and thru! Check your area Farm Bureau, they could be looking for agents and they a great company with many fine people!

university of Phoeniz offers the classes designed just to make you pass the test. The L/H was harder than the P/C. Take the class, then the class the Friday after.

practice test like crazy. Every practice test you can get. Take a cram course just before exam. Practice test!!

Go with a company that offers multiple carriers and product line. You want to be a problem solver and not a product crammer.
