AT&T caps phone data usage with new wireless plans

    #2
Yeah, I read that this morning. I reset my data usage on my Iphone so I can see how much I use per month. If its more than AT&T will allow in a month I will be switching to another carrier.

Man, that's a pretty stupid move on their part, especially with the amount of iPhones that are out there. And with the Droid phones in direct competition with other carriers, they stand to lose a lot of ****** off customers.

I was doing the same thing....LoneAggie, make us an app for data usage viewing...like a webalyzer for data usage on phone....chop chop...

Mine says it has never been reset....I don't believe that since I was jailbroke it and rebooted etc,.....not sure if that would reset the counter or not but if I go with what it is is telling me, only 3.9gb data since I got the thing back in november or so...

depends on how you look at it...they actually opened the market a bit since one of the plans is like $15 I think it said for people who don't use it all that much up to 2gb a month for $25....but those that have the unlimited currently can stay with it for the duration....

as everyone will want to know, they need some way to tell their current and past monthly usage to see how they would fit into one of these plans...

but for casual users who wanted to get an iphone...heck, with the new 3gs's going for $97 at walfart, people can rather cheaply get into the iphone that might not have before...they just need to figure out their usage needs...

That means you can stay with unlimited until you get a new phone/new contract. Once you get a new phone your contract is gone and you start over.

I have no reason to believe you could not, at this point, continue month to month just like you were under your old plan....just no new benefits of new phone since no new plan....you should prolly still be able to get another phone via third party and still run with it....but only time will tell....I bet that they will change that when they notice many people staying month to month with the old plan if they are data hogs....

Current AT&T subscribers will be allowed to keep the unlimited plan, even if they renew their contracts. But all new subscribers will have to choose one of the two new plans.

Gonna check with my ATT store today and get the run down on this for sure.

Heck of a way to fight all the folks who jailbroke and tethered their phones...(Like me). I will surely drop AT&T after this. Im getting sick of them anyway.

no you can keep your plan with a new phone if you change the plan then they might remove the unlimited. I have still have a plan from a decade ago on my att service.

AT&T caps phone data usage with new wireless plans

New subscribers would be affected not exsisting customers

Just one more nail in AT&T's coffin.

With Verizon, you get unlimited data usage. With the Android phones, you can tether day 1 without having to jailbreak. If the iPhone comes out for Verizon this summer as anticipated, AT&T is going to suffer big time. Lots of migration to Verizon, who has a much, much better network and can handle the load.

This stinks, looks like it's time for a change.
