    Stand Placement Strategy: Creeks

I thought I would go crazy and start a topic on hunting (gasp!). LOL.

So, I'm on a new lease and doing some strategery on stand placement. I've got a great area with a winding creek that holds water year round. Naturally, the slope runs down into the creek bottom, with lots of thick cover all around the creek.

How do you guys set up your feeders and stands for hunting these bottoms? Do you get right next to the creek (within 15-20 yards), or set up 100+ yards away from the creeks?

i stay about 30 yards from breeks because 1. the brust is normally too thick next to them and 2. if it floods good your feeder is gone!

Before you set up, pay attention to the winds. If the creekbeds are steep, you will typically get swirling winds that will almost force you to back off the creek a bit

I would set the feeder in a more open area visible from the creek area. then set a stand somewhere along the creek and get them as they travel in the cover to and from the feeder area. you will see a lot more deer, and the big deer will stage in the cover waiting for darkness.

Find a creek crossing and set up there. You won't need a feeder.

Sippy, you need to lay off all that milk. It's starting to take a toll on your spelling.

I have found hunting creeks that the deer typically travel right at the highes points along the creek line. I use to think that they traveled righjt down the center of the creeks or right along the creeks, but in my experience they don't.
If you have a woodline close to the creek then I found setting up 10 yards inside that wood line works good as well for cruising bucks.

If the creek is deep, then find a lowspot (creek crossing) and set your feeder up in the second treeline back from the creek (typically you will have a treeline along the creek and then a second row or treeline 30 yards or so back away from the creek. At least that is what I have experienced along the Clear Fork of the Brazos

Here is the feeder that was on the other side of the creek. The land owner said, "I was wondering why you put that there, that creek floods every year. But you know me I didn't want to get in your business".

The moral of the story is ask the land owner if the creek floods and how high it gets!
