Big Green Egg for Outdoor Kitchen?

I'm in the process of designing our outdoor kitchen.

The design will be a combination grill / bar area.

We routinely entertain for our friends and extended family. Group size ranges from 12 to 40 people. My concern is the amount of food that can be cooked on the egg as compared to a large gas grill. Egg has about 400" of cooking space, gasser has 800" plus.

The BGE interests me b/c of its versatility as compared to the standard gas grill.

Any experience with BGE and large groups?

    Suggestions appreciated!

there's an even better one that's made in China - all the metal parts are stainless and the wood shelves are bamboo - and it's almost the size of the largest BGE for a whole lot less money

    > Dragonfire Kamado

and one of the distributors is in Spring
    > CUNNINGHAM GAS
    18700 CARROTT ST.
    SPRING , TX 77379
    281-376-5200

btw - they're all actually called Kamado grills

here's a pic of a real fancy one made in California

If you are looking at a big green egg, you may as well check out the primo oval jr/xl. I was about to buy the egg but went with the primo instead. I have been very happy with that purchase!!

Have heard alot of great things about the BGE. However, cant go wrong with a stainless stell Weber either.

do both - we just built an outdoor kitchen where we added a gas grill and built in the BGE. So I sear everything on the gas then smoke it in the BGE - more than tripled cooking capacity. I've got pictures if you want them - very simple design.

Awesome! How does the prefab compare price wise with build from scratch? I am designing our home right now and it will have an outdoor kitchen with a fireplace and seating walls. This product looks like a perfect fit. However, can you build a "real" wood burning fireplace with it?

My brother just recently got the Primo XL. His first trial run was with baby backs and invited us over for the testing. This thing cooks awesome. I never thought anybody, especially my brother could do baby backs as good as mine but his were the best I've ever had.
This thing is made from some sort of ceramic and is real heavy, probably 3/4" thick. He got the whole 9 yards with table etc. I think it cost him about 2k all total. I don't know how much more it will hold but he had 4 racks of ribs in it with lots of room left. Probably enough for a small turkey or good sized ham.
One other thing. It uses real charcoal, not the briquettes and one sack will last about 24 hours holding 225 on the dot.
His outdoor kitchen gas grille is a Bull brand and its a good un too.
