Will be trying out a ground blind for the first time this year near Uvalde. There are plenty of snakes on the ranch, just curious how many of you that leave your blinds out during the season have had a visitor laid up inside of it. Any problems with the rats tearing up everything? Don't really want to put those stinkin moth balls out.

I always check mine before I step in, but I've been lucky so far. I also check around me every once in a while just in case one decides to drop by.
I did have a black mamba stick about 6" of the business end of his body in a ground blind this summer in Africa! My guide hit it with my arrow and it left in a hurry! We checked our shorts and later had a toast back at camp to celebrate still being alive.
I have a DB that the rats chewed up pretty good. I'm going to have to patch it somehow soon.

I went to check a permanent ground blind I hunt, Saturday morning, went to move my chair to check for snakes and there was a whopper of a skunk layed up next to it, I almost killed myself getting the heck out of there. I thought my fleet footed days were over a long time ago. Kinda surprised myself, didn't even pull any muscles.

I made the mistake once of laying down in my pop up(AS brickhouse) to catch a nap. I thought it would all be good because my buddy was with me studying for a test he had the next day. I sleep , he reads, and I wake up to a noise outside the pop up wall about 8 inches away from my face. I had laid down on the door side of the pop up. So I get up and sit for a few minutes hunting with my friend we go to get out and then I see what woke me up a nice 3 or 4 footer coiled outside the pop up door. At this point we are about 2 or 3 feet from each other. Once we saw each other he rattled for a minute and then took off. My friend behind me did not like that at all. So I told him " that's just part of it".I think he was there waiting on one of the many mice/rat guests in the pop up. We need to keep our eyes open as much as possible, we are in their habitat.

Los Ratons will chew 'em up quick, but their populations have diminished considerably this year for some reason at our place SW of Sabinal. We haven't found anything but spiders in 'em yet, but always look REAL good before stepping in. We put down some commercial 18" square rubber-backed carpet in the pop ups as well as the 3 cattle panel blinds we set up, it seems to lay flat enough snakes won't get under it. But I will respect the experiences noted above.
