    Solar Panel ???

I know nuthin about them. I am changin out some feeders with a 12v timer. I have bought the smaller 12v motor from Boss Buck. My brother can get the solar panels for free thru his work. He told me that the panels were 10 watts. Our question is, are these 10 watt panels too much for the timers or will they work???
Also, being that some of these feeders are in some deep woods in E Tx, will a solar panel even work.??
The ones we are replacing now are out in the open, with all day sun. Just not sure about the ones in the woods!!!

as long as you are using a rechargable battery with the panel it should be fine, i use them in heavy cedar cover and they charge, just not as fast as the ones in the open

if it is in a shaded area, the bigger is better however, you should verify whether that panel has the upper extreme potential to overcharge the battery it is attached to...get a regulator to put between the panel and battery just in case...

and if you have any of those 10 watt panels you don't need....I will buy some from you if they are cheap...

That's what we are needing to know I guess.

As far as sellin any panels, I'll ask but I doubt he will.

10 watt's is less output than a typical 12 volt solar panel sold for keeping a battery charged for a deer feeder. Most of the ones you see at Academy or Bass Pro, etc. are 60 watt. I wouldn't advise using one much above 60watt unless you know that the battery needs it. As mentioned earlier, overcharging can be a problem also. As for the 10 watt, it just depends on how long of a "run" time you have on the timer and how much sun you can catch. Won't cost anything to try

I was wrong in the previous post. Most deer feeder solar panels are 60-70mA(milliamps) not 60-70 watts. A 10 watt panel is putting out 900-1000mA. I would be afraid of overcharging the battery to the point of damage w/ a solar panel w/ this high of an output on a 12 volt gel cell. Sorry for the earlier incorrect statements.

I think those 10 watt solar panels would be standard fare for a car type battery on a remote fence gate setup....overkill but in a good way

So, I could get a 10 watt solar panel to keep my marine battery charged for my fence charger? It's a marine battery, so it is 12v, deep cycle. Where do I buy one?

You don't need one that big, those are generally $60+.

You can get panels at harbor freight

If the panels are free then get the regulator and it should be fine.

Thanks for the link. So, how do I know or figure out the size I need?

I want one for my fence charger, one for a light over my cattle pens, one in the barn, and soon a whole system for a new house.

10 wattts is way to much for a feeder battery but perfect for car battery size. Just be sure to use a charge controller and it should keep most things charged and ready to go

A 12v 70mA solar panel with a diode is what you need for your feeder setup.
