The question is what is it that you want out of a new bow. It sounds like you already probably have a couple of bows that will do the job fine. Do you want more speed? More let off? Quieter? Softer shooting? More forgiving?
Now I will bite on some of the other stuff. I have a ton of bows just because I have to try them. Most of the stuff I want to try is not in stock at every store so I just buy them and then keep shooting them if I like them. I also have a friend that shoots and does a lot with Drury. He shoots what the send him and it usually sucks at least to him.
Now the things I can understand people wanting, speed, quiet and accuracy (tunability with broadheads).
I do not understand hand shock, easy draw, and soft valley.
I guess if you shot targets for a living those things would matter. I cannot imagine hand shock mattering to anyone except maybe my wife. How hard can a bow really kick?
Now on to speed. Plain and simple speed kills. Now I do not advocate speed at any price. Super light arrows to get a 60lb bow is not sufficient. I am talking speed at 6gr/lb or more. Speed is your best friend and to me the only downside to speed is that the bows are not really forgiving and you must practice to be adequate with them. They have low brace heights and aggressive cams but, if you can handle them there is no substitute. Not saying you cannot kill without it but you cannot tell me that there is an advantage to a 250fps arrow versus a 300 fps arrow.
Now I have had all of the bowtechs and I really like them. I also happen to have the fastest Hoyt made and both of the fastest Mathews bows made. I have made custom bows by interchanging cams and cable and limbs and everything in between.
The only bow that will come out of the box and would be tame enough for almost everyone to shoot would be one of the Bowtechs and to be more specific it would be one of the older 2 cam Bowtechs. They are the only bow I have had shoot over 315fps in hunting attire with a 29" draw length, 70lb draw weight and a 440gr arrow at 65% let off. This includes a peep real string silencers and no tricks.
Now the fastest bow I have is the Blackmax2 but I shoot it with the turbo cam which is 50% letoff. It shoots my 460gr arrows over 330 fps at 29". I shoot 3-49 A/C/C's out of everything.
My Hoyt Supertec at 80#'s also shoots over 315 with 3-60's but it is at 80lbs.
I was able to shoot lights out with all of them but, I have been shooting the fastest bow I can get my hands on so I shoot the Blackmax2. This particular bow with 50% let off is not for everyone though.
So depending on what you are wanting out of them will totally depend on the bow you want. IF you want fast I would get a Bowtech. If you want the soft shooting quiet bows then the Mathews definately have more of an advantage there.
Also just an FYI my Blackmax 2 shoots terrible with a 80% let off cam and at 65% it is not much better. It is much more accurate and over 20fps faster with the turbo cam.
Now why speed? Well I do a lot of hunting on foot, rattling and or stalking. I have a rangefinder but, it is not always that convenient to stop and use. With a super fast bow I can shoot up to 40yds on 1 pin. There is about a 2.5" difference from 15yards to 40 yards. I can handle that. I won't shoot at a whitetail over 40yards so I shoot 1 pin in the field. The speed 100% eliminates any mistakes from using the wrong pin and it also gives me a cushion should I have to guess at the yardage.
You will not see many deer jump the string at 330fps either out to 30yards.
You can also do the math for KE and you will find that speed combined with a decent weight arrow will crash through almost anything. Not that we want to make bad shots but, it is nice to know you always have a small cushion working with you.
Now this is just my .02 and you can probably tell I am a speed FREAK!
